The Cresswell Dogman 1989

From Linda Godfreys blog: Two men young were cruising around the towns and villages of northeast England on a later summer’s night in 1989 for lack of anything better to do, when they found an unexpected cure to their boredom in the form of an upright, unidentifiable creature that ran in front of their car. The driver, who wishes to remain anonymous, wrote me about it after having found one of my dogman sketches based on other eyewitness reports. He said he had searched for years afterward trying to figure out what he and his friend had seen that night, but my sketch came the closest. The drawing you see here is my new rendering made to accommodate his exact description. I’ll quote his own telling of that night’s events, sent to me in two emails that I’ve combined here. Bassenthwaite Prints 14/5/16

  Armathwaite Hall Country House Hotel and Spa in Lake District . Date: 12/5/16 Location: Bassenthwaite lake area Weather: Warm sunny day, light breeze time: 8pm Mr and Mrs crossley were staying at the spa hotel as it was the husbands 70th birthday and they visit the lake district whenever possible. Set in 41/2 acres of wooded grounds and walled garden, just a short stroll from Lake Bassenthwaite and surrounded by nature reserves. The area is popular with hikers and ramblers of all ages and is very scenic. and the river Derwent runs through the grounds. They had their evening meal around 8pm and as it was still so sunny and warm they decided to walk in the grounds before retiring to their room.  They set off from one of the walled gardens down winding country paths and trails, Mrs Crossley noticed a set of strange marks/imprints in the ground and was puzzled by the shape and depth of the marks and the large claw/nail prints at the end of the toes, almost canin...
