Lancashire Boggarts, Wee Folk, Tricksters or Woodwoose??

Image
Growing up in in the UK you get used to tales of the wee folk, the trolls and pixies, the Fae and in Lancashire we have the Boggart, often described as small and hairy and a horrible appearance, blamed for many a missing horse blanket or milk from a step. Here are some of the tales of the wee folk I have come across whist researching our forest friends.

Long Calls From the Mountain? Black Mountains Wales

Image
Today I was contacted by a lady researcher in Wales: I was at my home property in Wales tonight about 5 pm when I heard 3 loud unusual calls in the Carmarthen /Brecon Welsh boarder Towns.  I was just at home, and there are woodlands at the back of the house, and the calls seemed to be coming from that direction, The house we live in backs onto the woodlands then there are mountains behind that, so there are no buildings or anything in that direction I can think of that the calls could of been. I jumped up but by the time I had made it outside the dogs everywhere in the town were going crazy and drowned out the noise. After a minute everything went quiet so I went back inside. Then about 20 mins later there was one long loud sound again (that I heard) and there may of been more as the dogs went crazy again.

He was surprised when he saw the tree, whilst he was walking this weekend with another dozen or so hikers using the Bigdog Forest Trail. As you can see the tree is upside down, similar to the ones we see in America and Canada. Described as being around 20 foot in length, the tree’s root system is where the canopy should be?? Is this weather? Does anybody have an explanation for this, or why the tree would be inverted?? I honestly don't know how or why this tree is like this. but it's twenty foot if an inch and I was astounded when I saw it. It's the first one ever. The area is wilderness with very few people, just small criss crossing roads and hectares and hectares of trees. I thought you would like the picture, and like yourself I would like to know a lot more. Big Dog Forest Walk is part of the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark. Big Dog Forest is 1,000 hectares in size and ...
